Children and Young People
We want Christchurch to be the best city in New Zealand. A child and youth friendly city, where children and young people are valued, supported, enjoy growing up and look forward to a bright future.
Child and Youth Friendly Christchurch means making sure your voice is heard and that you have a say in how your city is run.
Have your say now! We’ll be asking thousands of children and young people for their ideas on how we can create a more child and youth friendly Christchurch; we’ll compile the list and make the most popular ideas a key focus for the initiative, and we’ll share those with everyone! We’re working hard with our Youth Advisory Group to come up with ways to truly get the voices of the children and young people in our city so be sure to keep an eye on our events page to see where and how we’re consulting.
Our Youth Advisory Group will be looking for members from time to time, and if you’re interested we’d love to hear from you! We’re doing our best to make sure this group is representative, so let us know who you are, what you’re interested in and why you want to get involved!
Another important part of Child and Youth Friendly Christchurch is making sure you know your rights. New Zealand has signed the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). This means all children and young people in New Zealand have rights.
